We tested a prototype of this boat at Stingray's dealer convention last summer. We had so
many folks eager to take a test ride that we decided the fun factor would be more important
than running numbers on it.
Stingray bills the 200MS as a multi-purpose water sports and fishing boat. It's laid out
like a center console fish boat, with a really cool twist. It sports a proven, but seldom
used, MerCruiser/jackshaft (also available with Volvo power) setup that Stingray says moves
the engine forward. By doing so, this would theoretically give the boat the stability, ride
and feel of an inboard ski rig but the maneuverability only an I/O can supply. Did it work?
You darn betcha!
For skiers and wake boarders, the wakes were great. At 36 mph, they flattened out nicely
for skiers to cross with ease. At 16 to 22, the 200 put up nice, stout wakes and clean water.
And guess what? They already have a wakeboard tower option for the 200 -- a great investment
if you plan to do some riding.
What about comfort? Well, there aren't any of the fancy couches or jump seats you'll find
in a MasterCraft, but this is a crossover boat designed for double duty.
Say the mackerel are running off Mobile or the salmon bite is hot near Kenosha. This is
the boat you want. Rod holders, livewell, deep gunwales and wide-open decks make it perfect
for hooking and fighting big fish.
Did we mention the swim platform and re-boarding ladder for swimmers, divers, skiers and
wake boarders?
